Boeing 777 nearly blown over during landing at Heathrow

Huge crosswinds and extreme turbulence made for one very bumpy, sideways and almost fatal landing for an American Airlines plane at London’s Heathrow Airport. The Boeing 777 was being filmed by British planespotter Big Jet TV as it attempted the precarious landing during Storm Gerrit. Coming in for approach at an oblique angle, all seemed reasonably in control until a sudden gust nearly sent the plane into a roll right as it was about to hit the asphalt. We’re not sure which was more impressive, the pilot’s ability to perform last-ditch heroic flying, or the commentator’s rather British exclamations of ‘stop it.’
