Help a Disabled Veteran Rebuild a Safe Walkway at Home


My name is Chris Brown, and I’m a 100% disabled U.S. Army Veteran. For years, I’ve done my best to live independently on my small homestead, which sits on a slanted hill. To move safely between parts of my property, I rely on a system of wooden walkways that keep me stable and upright. Sadly, time and weather have taken their toll those walkways have now rotted through, not only on the surface boards but deep down into the supports underneath.

This has become more than just a repair project it’s now a safety issue. Every step I take could be the one that gives way beneath me. I’ve patched what I can, but the rot runs too deep for temporary fixes. Replacing the wood and restoring these paths properly will take more than I can physically or financially manage.

Lumber prices these days are overwhelming, and the cost of hiring help is well beyond what my fixed income allows. Like so many others, I’m feeling the squeeze of this economy just keeping up with regular expenses, especially food and utilities, has become difficult.
