This should be renamed the economics of entitlement and competition.
I think though, everyone needs to have minimum standards in regards to some health, protection, safety, pollution etc... and it needs to be a universal thing.
We cannot trade down in price - making men's lives, worthless, cheap and expendable, in order to save a few dollars on imported produce.
The USA went through an economic surge after WW2, because it was the only remaining industrial powerhouse left that has not been bombed into oblivion, and had geared up for a massive war economy level of production - so it could export to the rest of the world when the rest of the world could not make shit.
Then as the rest of the world got on it's feet with all new industries, they under cut the British, and the Americans, and the Australians, and sent much of their production to the wall.
