"Jasmine Comeau, 22, of Saint John, New Brunswick, was a 16-year-old active high school student who loved kayaking, hiking and volleyball. She says she took her first Pfizer dose on June 17, 2021 with only a sore arm, and her second on September 22, 2021 because she needed proof of vaccination for school events, sports and her yearbook photography role, on the day she says vaccination became mandatory in New Brunswick. She describes a crowded clinic, a form she was rushed to sign, and being told only about a sore arm. She says she felt cold, heavy sensations in her arm, a headache and tingling in her feet within minutes, and that within days she lost feeling in her legs and struggled to breathe. An emergency doctor told her it was flu, she says, until her mother, a nurse, raised Guillain-Barré and he admitted her.

Comeau says steroids restored some feeling, but her left leg remains weak, drags and causes daily pain, with leg tremors that began two months later. She describes wheelchair use, a rehab centre refusing referrals because of vaccine injury, three weeks of physiotherapy at Miramichi Regional Hospital, a home converted for her care, failing grade 12, finishing alone in the library, and completing a social service program. She describes losing friends and being mocked, and says her compensation claim was declined for lack of evidence and multiple diagnoses and has been under appeal for two years.
