"Cameron Hitchcock, 35, a business analytics graduate working as an inventory coordinator in supply chain administration, was healthy and on no medications when he received his second Pfizer dose on June 22 or 23, 2021. About three weeks later, on his 30th birthday, he woke with a swollen face and hoarse voice, and over the next days his feet and body filled with fluid. Emergency staff in Georgetown found that his kidneys were leaking protein and diagnosed nephrotic syndrome, and a 24-hour urine test later showed 90 grams of protein. He describes five months in hospital rather than the expected three days, a diagnosis of minimal change disease, high-dose prednisone with its psychological effects, weight climbing to 260 pounds, and one morning being unable to sit up. Blistering on his feet led to a plastic surgeon removing damaged tissue at his bedside.

When steroids and other drugs failed, he began dialysis, which he still needs. Hitchcock is on the deceased donor transplant list and says the average wait is about 12 years and that a transplant will not last. He says every doctor he approached called a vaccine link plausible and a panel of three doctors unanimously approved his Vaccine Injury Support Program claim. He describes the claims and income replacement process as terrible: months of no payments, cashing in savings, and no timeline for benefits. He travelled to Ottawa with dialysis arranged at a local hospital.
