Strike Witches takes place in an alternate universe where aliens invaded during World War 2 which resulted in all of the countries involved joining forces to fight the aliens instead of eachother. Unfortunately they kept losing until a Japanese scientist invented a new kind of aircraft called a Striker Unit that could only be piloted by magical female soldiers referred to as Strike Witches. The series is also well known for it's pantsu shots btw
