I am not from that part of the world....
I don't know what is around you near or far.....
I tend to be very frugal....
If it involves the very basics, a bed roll in the back of the ute, a few hand lines, and fishing rods, and maybe a gold pan and a pick.... and some food in an esky ( cool box ) with a little ice and plenty of water...
No pricey accomodation, no expensive equipment and no expensive adventures....
There was a priest I knew who - because of the shortage of priests, had to travel say between 8 towns - or more, with an average of say 50 Km between them - or 30 miles... there was a morning service here, a mid morning service there, and a midday service somewhere else... and all the mid week religious festivals and councilling and reading of last rites, and funeral services etc., etc., etc.
Well he had to drive enormous amounts of enormous distances almost all of the year....
His idea of a great holiday, was to stay home, sitting on his arse in the shade, reading books, having cups of tea and look at the back garden.
Fuck Driving ANYWHERE.
So a lot of good times can be had at museums, bushwalking with a social group, getting guided tours in all sorts of places...
There are tons of things to do.
Even working week ends on farms.... picking fruit and replacing fencing or buidling wooden barns with the Amish etc...
I really can't stand holidays.... or anything that is aimless and pointless.....
Maybe going to a town, getting some groceries, hardware, timber etc.. and making a video, stopping for a piss or two....
Taking a back road and having a little bit of an explore.... maybe throwing in a fishing line etc...
That is enough of a holiday for me.
Like the priest, Australia is a HUGE place, and I have seen enormous amounts of it, so I tend to value what I can do, within a short distance....
And if you sleep in the back of the car ( a ute ) and buy all your food especially at a discount type supermarket, and keep it in a cool box....
And stay at off road sites..... not camping sites with fees etc., you can do it for real cheap......
But there are social groups that you can mix with that do hikes etc...
