This mountain was once the worlds largest slate mine - to make slate tiles for roofs.

Then tiles from fired clay, cement, sheeting iron etc., took over, and the slate tile industry died out and so did the mine.

Then the old mine and lakes (Lochs) were redeveloped into a pumped hydroelectric power station.
