We have a very few of them here in europe, so don't worry lool I'm a man like you with beard and a very masculine voice, I hope it's clear now ^^ Man europe is not getting better these last years.. Go on a visit in some parts of London, Paris, Brussels, Marseilles and Berlin.. You're going to see that the 3rd world is now everywhere.. And man there's a good reason why so many westerners go not only to Thailand but in Cambodia, Phillipines, etc... Things are going down here in the west.. Many started to realise that there's no hope anymore.. Too much taxes, climate is bad 3/4 of the year, women are a nightmare here, prizes are skyrocketting for nothing really interesting in exchange.. Try to live 10 years in West Europe.. You're going to understand what I mean with the word Expensive ^^ Thanks for the press article and the info ! Yup the king in thailand is a little dictator.. It doesn't shock me to hear that they considered these protests as a form of treason.. That's how it works in totalitarian countries and yup it sucks.. I've heard a lot about thailand and the authorities who jailed many protesters over the years.. But you guys can be lucky if you compare your actual situation with the one of chinese citizens and the Chinese Comunist party (CCP)... Protesters mysteriously disapear.. Their families get persecuted by the CCP etc.. And there's no way for them to escape the consequences.. Thai people can consider themselves lucky that the west can intervene is some things.. In China it's over man.. The west has nothing to say... I think the future of thailand relies on western expats... They are the ones who may import their political system over the years and bring changes.. Because we saw what Pattaya and Bangkok looked like after months of lockdowns.. No toutists = No money.. Many lost everything and ended up in the streets.. The king knows that.. That's why they are making it more easier for western expats to invest in the country with programs like the BOI (Border of investment) but in exchange the king will have to change it's politics and he knows it.. Same thing happened decades ago when westeners put the pressure to ban polygamy in Thailand and it worked.. I think it's a matter of time.. Thai people are tired of such an authoritarian regime and one day there will be a change.. It's not already lost like in many countries of africa or the middle east, where there's no hope anymore.. But there's still hope for Thailand..

Sure, sure, I won't mysteriously disappear, I'll be "invited" for a "conversation" & then I may or may not disappear. Disappearances are a thing here just like our fellow to the north, the only exception is it will be on the news & that's about it. So what I can only say, is despite the declining of the west, a lot of people want to set for the west. The women have no problem, they can just marry white men & live on his dime & showing off her attractive half-white children. Men, however. Cheap labour I guess. Even I wonder should I stop bothering with working in a field I studied in college for & become a filthy peasant or a menial labour in 1st world countries. Why shouldn't I, poor, illiterate & ugly women who can hardly speak English can preen around like a peacock & talk down on her white husband right in front of him in her native tongue to all her friends & he just stood there smiling. If the poor & illiterate men can get paid like a manager washing dishes or picking up trash in 1st world countries. Should I really bother with building up my cv? If picking strawberries in Sweden or Israel pays what I make in 3 months in just a week, should I even stay here. Maybe things will change, but you forgot the election was 2 yrs ago, the dictator can force recounts until he wins. A lot of people & businesses are appeasing China, just like the gov. America lost in Afghanistan, the US ignored Hong Kong, I don't even have much hope for the west intervention. The west just seems to be too busy with 1st world problems & twitter activism. There will be hope when the US & 1st world countries rediscover their spine.

@Doggk: I'd say the hope for Thailand is for Thailand to stop being Thailand. Expats settle here, westernize the place, introduce some Christian ethics to replace the old. Thai people have this weird hatred for their own culture & infatuation with the west anyway, shouldn't be too hard. But all this would mean the west will bring in their problems as well. Patriotism will be seen as racism. Protecting your own land for your children is seen as discrimination. White people will ruin our housing market like they ruined their own by allowing the Chinese to buy up all available houses. The hope here is for actual industrialization to happen here instead of overly relying on agriculture & tourism. The gov propaganda here is agriculture is a big sector of the country when the main export has always been industry. That's the only hope I see, I don't expect any of it to happen though. So no, I have no problem with foreigners moving here. I want to make sure you people actually marry someone who loves you, not your wallet. You all can deserve better so whynot get what you deserve.
