A U-haul truck driver has been arrested after repeatedly ramming the security barriers outside the White House in Lafayette Square, on Monday evening. Videos of the incident show the driver crashing near the security barrier, reversing, then re-attempting the ram. ‘Preliminary investigation reveals the driver may have intentionally struck the security barriers at Lafayette Square,' said chief of communications and stating the obvious for the Secret Service, Antony Guglielmi.

The trouble with the barriers / bollards - is that they are not bits of slush cast (mostly hollow shells), of cast iron, in the shape of ornate posts, cemented about 2 feet into the ground....

They are actual steel rods with ornamental embellishment, that (sort of making this up because I don't know the exact specifications) are like 1 foot in diameter and 4 feet above the ground and 12 feet into a cylinder about 2 feet in diameter, of reinforced concrete....

They are designed to STOP fully loaded semis going through them at top speed....

They basically gut the whole truck. by tearing out it's engine and gear box and drive axles....

They are sort of like that.

And they suffer little to no damage in the process.

So what this fool is trying to do in a light delivery van, can only be achieved by say an Abrahms tank moving at full speed....

That or a D9 / D10 / D11 dozer...

I used to do crash repairs on the big diesel electric locomotives - and these things would center punch straight through fully loaded trucks that had stalled on level crossings...

And the front protection plate was like 32mm thick steel - probably a bit stronger than average...

But the old guy would wander out there with an old bean tin, with a fencing wire handle and a paint brush, and he would just touch up all the scuff marks on the front paint work... 10 minutes he is done.

Maybe the fitter would go out there and replace the brake hoses that had been shorn off in the crash - but that was like what something that has a few thousand tons behind it and is designed to survive crashes, hits something that is merely designed to transport goods....

Well the bollards are designed to stop almost anything running into them and to stop it getting past them... they are purpose designed.....
