@05:53:00 TFM talks about the U.S. & China's growth, building the railroads & infrastructure........ in Mexico in the late 1800 ish, a general by the name of Porfirio Diaz took power during a time of extreme crisis. Extreme crisis even by the standards of Mexico I mean (Industry halted, massive external debt, internal factional warfare, the population was illiterate & there was no infrastructure to speak of). He ruled for 31 non-consecutive years. During those 31 one years, he did the following;
-- Built the first railroad/railway system & regular 'roads' across the republic.
-- Built the first telecommunication system across the republic. [Just these two *massively* changed the republic]
-- Founded a bunch of basic schools & universities, forcing all citizens to at least get a basic education (Reading & writing, simple history, etc.).
-- Founded a bunch of hospitals & emergency services
-- Paid off the foreign debt and left behind a large surplus of funds (The ONLY president that has ever done this in Mexico, all others raid the treasury near the end)
-- Tried to negotiate a peace agreement between the warring factions, bringing in those who cooperated into the fold and wiping out those that refused. [It was necessary]
-- Etc.
In Mexico's history books, it is said he was a horrible tyrant that was wildly corrupt, abused his power against the people and did not care about the nation. The books talk about the 'impoverished people' and how 'the brutal govt subjugated them for no reason'....... Mexico was stuck in the 1500s and advnaced 400 years in 30. The standard of living drastically increased and problems that seemed insurmountable were resolved. Gral Diaz did all of that yet he went down in history as a 'monster'...... Gral Diaz stepped down from power when an (ULTRA-CORRUPT) revolutionary group fought against him refused to stand down. After a few years of fighting he was faced with the choice of straight-up exterminating his opposition or losing the conflict. He chose to step down and let the revolutionaries win because he was tired of fighting. When the revolutionaries took power, they IMMEDIATELY abused that power in very extreme ways. They also crushed any/all resistance/revolutions/insurgencies that arose and did so without remorse or hesitation. They famously told Mexico's top general to go in and leave none alive but if he can capture the leaders, that would be ideal. Those pieces of shit went down in history as 'heroes' & 'liberators' while Porfirio Diaz as a 'monster'..... fkking Mexico.
Anyway TFM is right. The so-called 'robber barons' are similar in that they presided over a period of explosive growth & prosperity but are depicted as some sort of horrible monster but I suspect this is a symptom of the ultra-hardcore leftist era we live in. When the cathedral falls, a lot of history books will be properly corrected.

don't want to come off as an asshole here, but instead of running to tfm every time you get challenged, try reasoning through these kinds of things for yourself and building that long term capacity for critical thinking.
