The current dominant market thesis is schizophrenic in its incoherence.
The asset inflation and deflation has been a purely monetary and Covid policy phenomenon for the last 2 years, with little connection to the actual underlying economy. All these huge institutions that run these portfolio algorithms, such as CTAs, base their allocations on equity prices instead of the actual underlying economy where actual commodity demand is.
People piling into megacap tech stocks does not actually increase the demand for oil in any significant way, for example, but these algorithms would consider that bullish for commodities, and the reverse relationship as megacap tech deflates.
I have no idea what the catalyst will be to jolt people back to reality, but it is coming and it is inevitable. China normalizing their policy would probably do it, but only Xi Jinping knows what Chinese economic policy will look like going forward.
