The 'badness' of the cathedral is an interesting question.
The decider for me is that theyre incompetent and incapable. It's not that they have these grand plans for humanity, it's that these plans are stupid, dangerous and will inevitably fail.
If they were competent and capable, and I was getting 'taken out with the trash', I would at least respect them. Ideally in this scenario you would join them or at the very least get out of their way.
