At a press conference with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a reporter from Hong Kong began to address his question in English. But Maduro asked the journalist to speak Mandarin, as there was no English-language interpreter present. ‘It’s the new world!’, the president quipped, chuckling amicably.

Way, way back when I was in school (mid to late 80's) we had to take mandatory French. I asked why and suggested Spanish or Mandarin would be a better choice given the way thing's were going.
