It's the "about to burst into tears" look - that is so pleasing....

Sour Grapes:
"The Fox and the Grapes" is one of Aesop's fables, numbered 15 in the Perry Index. The story concerns a fox that tries to eat grapes from a vine but cannot reach them. Rather than admit defeat, he states that the grapes are undesirable.
The fable illustrates the state of cognitive dissonance. The fox is taken as attempting to hold incompatible ideas simultaneously, desire and its frustration. In that case, the disdain expressed by the fox at the conclusion to the fable serves as a psychological defense mechanism by reducing the dissonance through criticism.
Here is a summary of the fable:
A fox spies a bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine.
The grapes seem ready to burst with juice, and the fox's mouth waters as he gazed longingly at them.
The bunch hangs from a high branch, and the fox has to jump for it.
The first time he jumps, he misses it by a long way. So he walks off a short distance and takes a running leap at it, only to fall short once more.
Again and again he tries, but in vain.
Now he sits down and looks at the grapes in disgust. "What a fool I am," he says. "Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for." And off he walks very, very scornfully.
The expression "sour grapes" originated from this fable.
