The indigenous Kuna people may become the first ever to be relocated from their island, Carti Sugtupu, north of Panama, due to the threat of rising sea levels.
The island, which is about the size of five football fields and, encircled by crystal-clear waters, is densely populated, with houses closely clustered together. According to official predictions, the island, elevated just 50 cm above sea level, is expected to be underwater by the year 2050.
