Mother shields son as bear terrorizes birthday party

A Mexican boy’s birthday party got a grizzly end when it was invaded by a bear. Silvia Macias of Mexico City had gone to Chipinque Park to throw a birthday celebration, but was in fur a big surprise when an uninvited guest left her protecting her son with her bear hands. Her son, Santiago, was bearly 15 years old. The large bear put the party on paws after it leapt up onto the table and started devouring the birthday meal of tacos and enchiladas, until the table was bear.

Silvia held her hand over her son’s face so he could bearly see what was going on – Santiago has Down Syndrome, and is scared of animals, and, like most people, unbearably scared of bears. Fortunately, one of Santiago’s friends lured the bear away by throwing the food, giving the family enough time to make their escape.

Silvia was, however, upbeat about living to tell the tail. ‘I just think I'm a mother who protected her cub,’ she said. That’s what we call bearental guidance.
