[Verse 1]
Traveling in a fried-out Kombi
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
And she said

[Chorus]
Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover

[Verse 2]
Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six-foot-four and full of muscle
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
And he just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich
And he said

[Chorus]
I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover, yeah

[Instrumental Break]

[Verse 3]
Lyin' in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me?
Because I come from the land of plenty"
And he said

[Chorus]
Oh! You come from a land down under? (Oh, yeah, yeah)
Where women glow and men plunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? Ah
You better run, you better take cover
('Cause we are) Living in a land down under
Where women glow and men plunder
(Hear, thunder) Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better, better run, you better take cover
Living in a land down under
Where women glow and men plunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? Oh, yeah
You better run, you better take cover
(We are) Living in a land down under, oh
Where women glow and men plunder
(Yeah, yeah) Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? (Yeah, yeah, thunder)
You better run, you better take cover
Living in a land down under (Living in a land down under)
Where women glow and men plunder
(Oh) Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: Initially when I found that song it struck me as unique. I think so much unique culture has been lost due to international homogeneity.

A lot of stuff just gets lost in the mists of time... I used to wonder why people threw out mountains of old news papers, the archives of the era of that area and they threw out 78 records etc... It's because they read it and heard it and remembered it... and then stacked it away and then it just because old gear taking up space.... so they threw it out.... and now all them artists and hitorical records from 1900's etc., are all gone.... no one knows, no one remembers, only fanatical collectors and archivists thought it was important... And none of us know, or will ever know - just how much brilliant music has been lots to the mists of time.....

Yeah well winning the Americas Cup was only done for fun - it really was just too easy... Could win it every year if we wanted too... Are you in Australia?

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: No. Closer to the top, in the land that time, reason & sanity forgot, ruled by Prime Minister Zoolander. Went to the trucker protest in person. Had a burger, honked a horn.

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: "Head full of Zombie"...Shane, could you please tell me what "Zombie" is?

@bigintol03: My guess was weed related, first time I heard. A friend told me that Hippy Trail was a real thing, was Australian, so I just believed him.

Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson

@bigintol03: "Travelling in a fried out Kombie - On a hippy trail - head full of zombie... " Aside from the fact that it rhymes with Kombi - amongst the bullshit of the myths and legends of Australian drug culture, as best as I know from someone who smoked it, who I had dealings with 40 years ago... The sort of original "weed" of the 50's and 60's was relatively weak, and low in THC, and then enterprising people with good seed stock and breeding techniques and sometimes additives (PCP etc) and unique growing methods - like plant hormones, special fertilisers etc., and cross breeding and only regrowing the seed that was very strong and so on and so forth... Well in Hawaii - (vague here) people were growing Mauii Wowi, they were importing weed from Thailand... the Cheech and Chong joke about the dope novice talking about Tied Stick... weed tied to a stick, and in Australia there was a variety or cultivar of marihuana called Zombie Grass - that they were not technically paralysed from it - they just smoked some and were so fucking out of it - they were unable to move..... sort of a bit like being SO drunk on guzzling high alcohol content spirits, that one has ones eyes and mouth open, but is unable to do much besides flop around a little on the floor, because they are too fucking drunk to even attempt to start getting up..... I can't give accurate dates or time lines... probably from the early 70's onwards and sort of vanishing into history and mythology...... early to late 80's and 90's.... This is why you see the band flopping around "out of it", pretending to be paralysed from Zombie Grass - when the van door opens... And this bit - "[Verse 3] Lyin' in a den in Bombay With a slack jaw, and not much to say" - they mean an opium den...

@bigintol03: Yeah the guy sitting in the tree playing the flute - he was playing the main verse of "Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree" and it wasn't until they discussed this on an episode of Spicks and Specks, as guests - that anyone at all - even figured it out... out of hundreds of millions of people hearing it and listening to it for decades... that the riff was actually from a childrens song... No one had figured it out EVER..... then when it was brought up - the shit hit the fan.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UODO2O5k_94 ----- And here is the Kookaburra bird and it's call.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXA0-YAoo9Q

@bigintol03: I actually saw that episde.... and went, "Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree? (confusion much) No fucking way?" Billions of people have heard this song, thousands of times and not one person ever caught onto it.... ever.....

@Drums_McBashington: I think the hippy trail was doing all the music festivals and communes and seasonal work up and down the east coast of Australia... Basically a general disaster for all involved... using lots of drugs and many succumbing to mental illness from the weed, heroin over doses and drinking...

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: That guy I knew told me it was a route through Southern Asia, hit all the drug hot spots. India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand. Afghanistan, maybe. There was a list, can't remember them all.

   2    0
Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson

@Drums_McBashington: Yeah I have forgotten so much... Your right.. Southern Asia, hit all the drug hot spots. India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand. Afghanistan - Marakesh - The Golden Triangle - all the opium growing in South East Asia, etc., etc., etc. The Heroin Scene wasn't my thing... I had tried a couple of small deals of Opiated Hashish, and I figured that, "This is really nice, but it's a little bit too nice - I think I could end up having real problems with this"..... so I never went near it again. AND I just stuck to smoking dope and booze... Yeah... all the washed up deutrius of the 60's.... and it's trail of drugs, death and destruction.... This is why I re did this video calling out Cheech and Chong - not for being trail blazers, but for being bastards... lying cunts. https://www.mgtow.tv/v/1lZrDy And I wrote to Hunter S. Thompson about 6 months before he killed himself , saying "Thankyou for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" - because the humor in it, got me through some tough times, but overall it was just drug addicts / damagaged people running amok, and causing chaos through the lives of everyone they came across.... AND the coup de gras` was that in amongst it all, you never spoke up about the horrendous death toll and destruction of all the peoples lives who got into drugs... You didn't tell them about getting a way out... of all the shit - instead of just riding this crap all the way to their graves.... The last word he ever typed on his type writer was "Councilor" - No one else knew what me meant - but I did - he said, "Go ask for help". The Final 24 - Hunter S Thompson

Discussing the horrors to a nice lounge jazz soundtrack. Pink Floyd did More soundtrack. Film about the scourge of opiates.

Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson

@Drums_McBashington: IN the "Spill the Blood of a Hippy" song - I wrote a heap of notes about what I recalled from that time and what was in the song..... "bigintol03 9" - He didn't understand all the historical connections they were alluding too... AND unless you lived through it and or researched deeply - these fakts would be lost to history...... It's a good read...... AND there was a video (film) from the Summer of Love in 1965 in San Francisco... They said this great experiment was a fucking disaster, and that all the free food and sharing and shit - was fun at the start but by the time it was over, so many people were drug fucked they were incapable of looking after themselves and they NEEDED the street kitchens and free food.... So they buried the whole issue - the free love and drugs and all that was a bad idea. Then you get drugs, and then you get crime - both the manufacturers, the sellers and the dealers, and the people stealing to support their habits... ALL bad....

   2    0
Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson

They held a funeral for the summer of love - with a coffin and a ritual burning of the entire issue, saying, "Don't follow in our path - it's wrong, it's bad and it didn't work".

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: Yep. Not much love for the hippies here. Knew a few people that were or thought as much, decent people, but the movement itself was just more lefty communist bullshit. Festival Express has a good sample of that.

   1    0
Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson

Yeah - I was kind of fortunate in that I had no aspirations for crime - I'd rather understand the design of the lock and how to pick it because I had locked my keys inside and I was outside... and things of great cleverness interest me - this is totally different to picking locks to break in and steal shit... Not on. And I was also a dole check junkie - content with a little weed and booze.... All the damaged people in the drug culture... They are almost all dead... Overdoses, suicides and misadventure.... There are so many of them......

@Drums_McBashington: "Oh far out Man!" - most of these crowds are lost and rudderless people washing up on assorted shores like plastic pollution, to celebrate the fact that they have NO DIRECTION or PURPOSE in life. So they gather as wastes of time, in wastes of space...... Far Out...

Jethro Tull were invited to woodstock, turned them down. Anderson said he had no interest in flying across the ocean, to spend the weekend in a field with a bunch of unwashed hippies. They still played a couple of Tull tunes through the PA, between bands. You can hear them in the movie.

@Drums_McBashington: Jimmy Hendrix ----- "Yeahhhhhhhh Overdose" -------- Janis Joplin ------- "Going down with Janice" - great book.

   2    0
Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson

@Drums_McBashington: The only good thing about that "Going down with Janice" book - it was given to us to read to discourage 12 year old kids, from getting into drugs.... commendable... but kind of pointless... But the book was basically a shit fest of addict crap - but it did have one bit that I thought was kind of funny - a junkie loser in the Hells Angels, was absolutely shit faced on loads of drugs, large amounts and quite a variety - and he decided to go and enlist in the Vietnam war... So off he shot at highly illegal speeds on his Harely - across the Golden Gate Bridge and into the San Francisco recritment office...... The Doctor asked him, "Why do you sweat so?" - so he told him.... It was more the humourous issues and the well written context that was good... the reality was that it was all just crazy drug fucked bullshit...

Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson

@Drums_McBashington: I used to want to dig up bits of my past to recount - and record... I think talking about that shit is a way of processing the lies, the bad inflences and letting it go and putting it behind me... That bit about the junky hells angel - that was funny at the time, just like the traffic cop following hunter S Thmpson into a tight off ramp at 100 miles an hour... Thompson was prepared, the cop wasnt... It was a funny read back then... but now... "It's just stupid and dangerous". (still funny but) in his book fear and loathing in Las Vegas... Being drug free a long time, that book is just chaos and wreckage of people trying to escape using drugs...
