Vigilante justice is not justice; it's revenge. As much as it sucks... without a fair trial and impartial jury, a death sentence would be revenge and still murder.
Like suddenly getting rich, with enough attention, (good or bad); any and every type of individual or group will attempt to benefit, suddenly everybody knows you and has always been your 'friend', it would become almost impossible to trust anyone, much less live your life.
The benefit of the doubt can be hard to give and may be entirely unwarranted, but I would rater live in a world where there is one; and Karma does it's job than to allow a tragedy or injustice drive me to a place of inherit distrust and suspicion of everyone.
