Hundreds of miles from the nearest civilization, Russia’s nuclear-powered icebreakers continue their missions through the frozen Arctic. But life on board is not only about cutting through ice — it is also about keeping the crew fed, energized and ready for long months at sea.

RT’s Anastasia Volodina visits the kitchen of a nuclear icebreaker to see how meals are prepared for around 100 crew members. From chicken in cream sauce to freshly baked bread and food sent by elevator to the mess hall, the ship’s kitchen works around the clock to support those working in extreme conditions.
