They dont "pick" the cobalt out of the dirt by hand, those are diamonds (potentially), not Cobalt,,,..,
The white (or whatever non black) savior complex got to stop, this is just an attack on a perfectly harmlessly mined material in the Kongo.

Yes they do !! That's what YOU can't believe, but it doesn't mean that it's false.. It has totally nothing to do with the white savior complex or any kind of attacks... This video shows the hidden ugly truth that the vast majority of people IGNORE !! And when they see it for the first time they react like you.. How is that possible ? This is propaganda ! It can't be true ! It's something else !! The reporters are liars !!.. You guys can say what you want it won't the fact that it's really taking place for decades now... Everytime you buy technology for a cheap price it's probably because some minerals have been extracted illegaly and sold illegaly for a cheap price to companies who sell those to the phone, computer, tech industry... It's WIN WIN for every company who does that..

@Doggk: Math rules: Again GLOBAL production is 110'000 metric TONS, PER YEAR. 60'000 metric TONS of that comes from KONGO There is not enough days in the year and kids on the planet to do this manually. If the math doesnt compute, its an emotional scam against development of African industry

@Doggk: " Everytime you buy technology for a cheap price" Electronics is cheap because of science and technology, There are 10 orso rare earth minerals in electronics, Cobalt is not one of them, its dirt cheap

@Lucifer333: But the entire production doesn't rely only on the production of kids.. Congo is a great country.. The maps we used to study at school are false !! Which means that if Congo is much bigger than in the school maps.. You can easily reach those numbers.. + Congo has a large population.. There are giant companies like Areva, Gecamine etc.. + the Chinese and other foreign companies.. If you add all those numbers together it matches... And I personally think that much more is extracted than we think.. The numbers they gave to the public are numbers they wan't to share with the public.. But the real numbers huh ^^ We'll probably never know...

@Doggk: 1. Kids(slave labor) cannot compete with heavy machinery (heavy machinery makes mining Cobalt is dirt cheap) , slaves need at least to eat, you cant even make food money, 2. it makes sense to use slave labor for gold /diamonds, and yes mercury is used in the purification of gold. 3 your argument that "Electronics is cheap because of slave labor" , no electronics contains a shitton of expensive rare earth minerals ,( Cobalt is not one of them)

@Lucifer333: Do you want a constructive discussion or just a "you said this, you said that" type of discussion.. Science and technology represents less than 15 % of the reason why companies can propose cheaper quality products ... The major reason why companies can propose cheap products with quality materials.. Is first because TONS and TONS of minerals are extracted illegaly and exported illegaly.. Same thing with legal extractions many quantities are exported illegaly.. The companies pay ridicule amounts of local taxes and they pay the corrupt officials in order to get the minerals out of there for cheap and without paying taxes.. Second thing : Companies buy from those illegal mines too.. The amount of such mines are increasing ! So the amount of minerals they can buy from there increases... Cobalt is one of the most extracted minerals, but there's Coltan too and many other minerals extracted.. In a mine you can also find sometimes more than one type of mineral..

@Lucifer333: I've said everything I had to say about the subject.. Believe what you want.. If you're convinced that everything is a scam, white savior complex, that it wasn't a cobalt mine bla bla bla.. Well that's your problem.. The majority of your questions have been answered.. I don't have time to argue.. P.S.: I'm not here to do propaganda, but to bring awarness !! Have a nice day sir..

@Doggk: @Doggk: "Science and technology represents less than 15 % of the reason why companies can propose cheaper quality products ." I am a solid state physicist (semiconductor physics) from TU Delft, the material cost of an iPhone/Smartphone is 2%, 98% is engineering and manufacturing (my big fat salary). in 2010 I switched to investment banking (work and live in Zurich),

@Lucifer333: Well it's difficult to believe someone who uses "LUCIFER" and the mark of the beast "333" aka "666" as a nickname..

Lucifer333
Lucifer333 4 months ago

@Doggk: Irrelevant , you dont know what goes into making semiconductors, You are not an electrical engineer/ applied physicist , 98% of the cost of making a mobile phone is paying ppl like me (ASML, Intel, AMD,) 2% (not your stated 85%) is the cost of raw materials that includes refining and shipping

   0    0
Lucifer333
Lucifer333 4 months ago

^^^ so the argument, "big bad capitalism is exploiting so they can make cheap mobile phones", what flexibility do you have in reducing the 2% cost? to 1%?. loll If they cut the salaries of the Phd's working at ASML, etc, by 50% you could sell iphones for half the price basicly

@Lucifer333: It's absolutely not irrelevant... Lucifer is known as the father of LIES... And you use that name as a nickname and expect me or anyone else to believe you ?? In what kind of world do you live ?? I already told you.. I've said what I had to say, your questions have been answered.. Believe what you want.. that's your problem.. Don't come here again to start shit by calling everything lies and then argue again and again for no reason if it's your EGO.. There's no point to carry on this discussion... You have your beliefs, I have mine.. I don't have time to argue pointlessly.. So go steal someone elses time with your "YOU SAID THIS AND THAT", "I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE WRONG"... Grow up !! I hope it was clear !

@Doggk: hey man,..,its a free country (still), layman can make up all kinds of stuff about the "true cost" of electronics (2% goes to raw materials). If raw materials are only 2% of ticket value, and 98% is capital investment and salaries of (Western) scientists (around 140k a year for medior) designing the smartphones, then how is that 'exploitation to drive down cost' , (retorical question, because it isnt)

Lucifer333
Lucifer333 4 months ago

this is a gold/silver/diamond mine, not a Cobalt mine, slaves cant compete with heavy machinery (digging dirt up by the mega-tonnage), driving down cost, slaves need food too, and that cost money

That is not a cobalt mine, this is what a cobalt mine looks like , Considering the low cost of the material, the movie cannot be a cobalt mine, (even if you are using cheap slave labor, this means the mine is a gold mine / diamond mine, a mineral with high markup)
This is a photo of a typical cobalt mine, 110'000 METRIC TON (wiki) per year is produced, you would need the population of 10 earths to even do this by hand..

LIES! , these are conflict mineral (diamond, gold) mines, (WIKI) Cobalt PRODUCTION is 110,000 METRIC TONS (yes TONS!) a YEAR, Kongo does 60'000 of that, it would take the children of 10 world populations to do anything by hand, THIS IS WHAT A TYPICAL COBALT MINE LOOKS LIKE (how can human labor event begin to compete with a single truckload of that huge beast)

And the guy with the big tumor on his throat was probably a lie too ?? He ate too much gold and diamonds... pfff.. "(how can human labor event begin to compete with a single truckload of that huge beast ?" : That's exactly what you don't understand.. There's those official cobalt mines from companies like Areva, Gecamine.. etc.. They produce more than the little mines.. The reason why there are illegal mines like you saw in the video is because people are poor and this what pays the most.. So even if their production is much lower than official mines.. The price of their cobalt is cheaper than the official mines.. And there will always be someone to buy their cobalt / minerals.. Most of the time the buyers are from CHINA... It's a fact.. what you saw in the video is REAL and far from LIES..

@Doggk: Gold needs mercury for separation (mercury EXTREEMLY toxic), even if the (manually mines) ore was 100% pure, manually mining cobalt wouldn't even make them foodmoney. Again GLOBAL production is 110'000 metric TONS, PER YEAR. 60'000 metric TONS of that comes from KONGO There is not enough days in the year and kids on the planet to do this manually. If the math doesnt compute, its an emotional scam against development of African industry

Yup this is real.. This is africa since the end of colonialism.. It happens in Congo, kenya, botswana, malawi, angola, cameroon, ivory coast, nigeria, south africa.. Many many african countries.. Child labour is a popular thing due to misery in these places.. The reason the prices of technology decreased is because of this shameful ways they have to extract minerals.. Bro open your eyes, don't get fooled !! God is not the one responsible for this shit.. But the devil partisans in the multinationals who make billions and don't say shit about it when they come back to Europe, the US or China with their minerals and money covered with blood.. These people even kill journalists to protect their businesses.. Many people have dissapeared trying to share the truth with the world these last decades.. God would be a piece of shit if he couldn't send journalists or people like me to show the truth about this subject, to open the eyes of the ones who are blind.. He does give the power to the ones who believe in him to help them denounce that modern slavery used by these billionaires and bring light where these devil partisans don't want light.. God is far from being a piece of shit believe me.. But the Devil and his army of the darkness are the true pieces of shit.. He's the one who brainwashes people to make them believe that God is entirely responsible for this while the Devil is the one responsible for this.. By the way you can thank God for the video I uploaded who made you aware of something you obviously didn't know.. Now you'll understand a little bit how God loves you... The Devil would instead hold you in ignorance.. May God help you ! May the force be with you ;-)

Try to even broach this subject with a Chinese Communist & they'll likely respond with something to the effect of 'Hmm, nice organs you have there...'

@Doggk: Materialism is to blame in general meaning over exposure to capitalism. The issue is that companies among them amazon and apple are in league with both the US and Chinese governments. I am assuming all those parties either accept the status quo or dont think anything needs to be approved. Clearly the process has many chokepoints (how can the western governments hold the chinese traders accountable for example) that could be leveraged to demand better working conditions, social support etc for the miners with the idea that they need to move out of poverty and have freedoms. If the US and China cant agree on many things is it likely they can agree on this issue to reform the work as this slavery needs to end. We need to be against forms of slavery so that progressive generations will be far away from that threat.

@bousso: In fact man, everybody has blood on their hands.. We too.. We buy technology, we use smartphones, we buy those diamonds for the bitches we fuck, we buy Xbox, PS4's PS5's etc.. All these things require minerals extracted in such shameful ways in order to lower the production costs and propose a more affordable product to the consumers... Communist do speak about it in fact its the Capitalists who don't say a word about this stuff.. Because they are the ones pulling the strings behind the scene...

Cobalt is not mined with slave labor, the video shows diamond/gold mining, Cobalt is too dirt cheap , at least slaves need to eat, so you need to make enough to buy food,
