If you could calculate from the time the sprayed up lava, peaks and then drops to the surface, That would give you the height, and from that you could figure out the width and length of the lava pool...

The trouble is with volcano's is that they are usually SO fucking HUGE... that while they might look like really giant above ground swimming pools in the back yard, they are actually 10 or 20 or 30 Km away....

The scales - unless your there and have seen a few of them close up, it's hard to get a perception of their size and distance, through a tiny computer screen...

Like it's not beyond comprehension - but many of these things are LARGE mountain sized objects... and its hard to comprehend the size and distance...

This one is especially like this.... and the speed and volume of the eruption - and how HUGE it is, but it's an astronomical distance away.....
