In an online game some 12 or so years ago photos were not needed. Other than name and gender, I was me. I acted me, I talked no differently, etc.
The male me was shat on a lot by other players when I messed up or was looking to team up. Most players were crass, dismissive, and I had very few friends.
The female me couldn't stop getting friended, pm'ed, and when I messed up I was encouraged, treated with patience and understanding, and rewarded by male AND female players for even the most mundane accomplishments.
This carried over into other online games and communities. Again, I didn't even need pictures and I didn't act any differently, and it was males and females being super kind, generous, and helpful. It's no wonder some men want to be women; life literally on cruise control, tutorial difficulty, with other's doing all the lifting without as much as a single request for help, plus free gifts just for showing up.
