I would much rather get my opinion out and be true to myself than go along to get along. I tried doing that shit back when I didn't know any better- I eventually discovered that it was never enough. Just like the saying goes about giving in to women and feminized men: you give an inch, they take a mile. Whatever you do or say to appease them, they'll just want more. Start telling these people no- if they understand, then cool. Maybe you can still have a connection with the person. If they try to guilt trip you, insult, shame, etc., disassociate with that person and never look back. They will only drag you down into despair with them while they follow the status quo.
@MSR82: You cannot have a connection with any person who tried guit-tripping you. That is psycological abuse. Even early mgtow insisted keeping these people out of your life becuase if you allow them, it is only a matter of time before they'll do it again. And yes, I gave up on pleasing people and have well documented it.
