Today we are machining some metal inside the scanning electron microscope! By creating a custom fixture, we can manually advance a carbide cutter and cut metal inside the vacuum chamber of my SEM. Then we can construct a timelapse of those images to see what metal looks like under extreme magnification when being cut!

There is staggering amounts of smarts in all directions - I just gave a great deal of thought to the tapered wedge style rain gauges. The less rainfall they get, the more the gauge magnifies it... It's astoundingly clever - and so simple. AND to work it out it's basic geometry, surface area, depth and the halving of rectangular prisims....

@bigintol03: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_gauge There is a LOT of ancient history and use of rain gauges. Quite a good read actually - Rain = crop yields.
