Yeah they nutted it out and without RESEARCHING the exact bullet types, from the actual museum, I think the lack of fusion was based upon the OLD bullets perhaps being a pure lead, while the modern rounds are alloyed AND perhaps the OLD bullets were NEW and shiny and clean and lubed with tallow - which under pressure (heat / friction) acts as an acidic flux. In essence it's a "just so" friction weld.
