Dawood Al-Janaby, 34, was 29 and a full-time software engineering student at York University who went to the gym three or four times a week and took no medications. He says he received Moderna and that night his whole spine felt like fire, with tiredness so severe he could hardly walk. He says he was told at a vaccination centre it would pass in two days, but the pain worsened, with electric-shock-like nerve pain over his body, and after about two weeks an emergency room kept him 12 to 13 hours without a bed.

He describes normal blood tests, a family doctor who did his best, and burning abdominal and chest pain, and says he was told masses that appeared in his hands, now about six, were benign cysts. He describes involuntary whole-body tremors for about three and a half years, showing a video of a mild episode, crawling up stairs, needing his father and brother to help him to the washroom, and now living with his parents. He says pain returns for days after any exertion, triggered by cold, carbohydrates and stress, with word-finding trouble and doubt that he will be employable.

He says doctors were afraid to diagnose him, that it took 10 or 11 months to see a neurologist, and that the adverse-event report system has a permanent disability field that cannot be filled until a year has passed. He says his compensation claim was rejected as fibromyalgia, that documents sent to him during his appeal included his father's records and a cardiologist he had never seen, and that he was first recognized for Ontario disability support under post-COVID vaccination syndrome before being removed and having to appeal.
