The Jews were picked to be God's chosen people not because they are great, but because they are the most stiffnecked of all mankind. They were picked because they are the least of all mankind. This is how God demonstrates his greatness is by their weakness. Its the contrasting model that you should look at. If the Jews were a perfect people then, God would not be able to show his greatness because the Jews would do everything the right way. As you have noted, they are evil. That is why God chose them to be his chosen messengers' of his word. Additionally, You are correct that what they worship is the devil, but not all of them. Many Jews do try to worship God in truth, but it is their leaders that steer them to worship Satan. Again, it is very complicated with many layers or evil and righteousness.
