This is my life to live as I see fit. Always has been. Always will be.
I used to have family and societal pressure to marry, have kids and shit but I noticed how many divorces there were among these people. Even as a teenager something seemed off with this narrative. Then, as a decent looking young guy I set out to find a decent young woman. Put succinctly, there aren't any.
I wasted two decades of my life trying to find "marriage material." Its hard to believe in monogamy when you've been hit on and propositioned by as many married and ltr chicks as I have. The women I was seeing were no better. I watched a pattern among women: marry, drop a kid or two, get fat, cheat, divorce. Rinse and repeat. Watched most of the guys I went to school with marry and divorce. This wasn't something I could get on board with. Looked painful and expensive.

At some point I had what I call my moment of clarity. I understood women.
I'm 56 now and I never married or had kids. Been monk for going on six years now.

You could work your fingers to the bone trying to make another person happy. You'll get no recognition for your efforts and stand an above average chance of having to pay for your effort for the rest of your life.
Or.
You could work to make yourself happy and live to enjoy the fruits of your labor. I chose the latter.
