As the Institute of International Finance reports, 36 countries are currently in a major food crisis, with food insecurity at a chronic stage for 21 of them. It also stressed that the situation started long before the Ukraine conflict.

In Portugal, for example, anti-Russia sanctions have left farmers unable to export their orange harvest, and many are now forced to give the fruit away for free.
