Ummmm this is in New Zealand.... AND helmets are a good idea actually.... I crashed a motorbike at 170 Kmh.... How tall are you and how high do you sit above the ground on a bicycle.... like say to the top of your head?

@sauger1001: So depending on the bike - the posture and height, a lazy speed is 20 Kmh forward, plus a fall of say 2 meters.... and a gravitational acceleration of (almost) 10 meters per second squared... the weight of your head and some of your body = kinetic energy - so hitting the edge of some concrete guttering - that can break your head open....Since that is all low speed stuff, and much higher speeds can be involved, as well as vehicles, the velocities and impact energies can be much, much higher, fucking helmets are a very good idea... totally.
