I have been spitting up some mucus a lot lately as well, and it has caused me to avoid some foods as it was causing me to choke while I tried to sleep.
I stopped drinking whole milk, I love the flavor of whole milk, but it was causing so much mucus that I was always spitting it up or choking on it while I was awake or asleep.
Idk if it's the same thing you had, but it was out of the norm for me. I didn't go to the doctor for it like you did.
